www.equifax.co.uk

London, 20th March 2009 - According to the latest report* from leading instant online credit information provider, Equifax, 23% of homeowners are concerned that their property may be repossessed. "This is a small increase on the 20% of homeowners we surveyed last year who said they were worried about repossession", confirmed Neil Munroe, External Affairs Director, Equifax. "But it is indicative of the growing pressure on family finances, with 84% reporting that they have not yet received a pay rise in 2009."

However, 80% of those who responded to the Equifax survey, conducted at the beginning of March 2009, said they would contact their lender if they were facing financial difficulties to try to avoid the risk of repossession. "This figure shows that consumers know the importance of communication when experiencing financial problems. But with the Which? report** highlighting that 4.2 million people are worried that they may go into negative equity in the next year, it is clear that there is a huge pressure on lenders to be as sympathetic as possible to people's circumstances."

Neil Munroe, External Affairs Director of Equifax is available to comment on the impact of debt on families. He has extensive experience and expertise on this and other key issues surrounding consumer credit and consumer credit information and is available to provide specialist commentary and guidance.
